Mongolian & Turkic Throat Singing

My grandsons’ music

My grandsons’ (both of them) love this music and think everyone should. I doubt everyone will, but my youngest grandson (7) especially wants you to have a chance to become acquainted with the following three acts.

Each of these performance groups produce decidedly non-North American music. Each emphasizes multiple dimensions of their ethnic culture(s) including:

  • throat singing
  • indigenous instruments
  • culturally based language(s) and themes

Given that each of the groups trace their ancestry from Western Asia, you will notice a great deal of that influence in their performance styles and costuming. I personally am in awe with how much the Otykem performance attire ressembles North American Indian traditional attire.

The following links will provide you access to some of the groups’ music. Enjoy.
