My MX Linux 18 (Continuum) experience

I know this post is me just hoggin’ air time.

I have just completed two installs/ setups of MXLinux 18 (I know this is premature). The efforts have proceeded splendidly and are running exceptionally well. After two solid days of building, setup and backups I have only noticed three small items, and they are personal preference items, not show stoppers.

Install #1 is for my dad;he’s nearly 90 and is now using MX Continuum on a refurbished Dell ‘blade server’ with a 42″ Roku Monitor. Given his macular degeneration, this gives him a PC where he can read his news and follow his stocks. He’s a happy camper.

After doing his setup, I converted my Dell e5470 to MXLinux. It has 1 PCIE SSD(1TB) over half filled with my genealogy ‘stuff’. I have installed Virtualbox and numerous non-standard apps. Thus far everything is going wonderfully (except for my Chromium setup which whines about having a profile that is too new for the current version… oh well, it seems to work fine).

The items I have noted which I’d like to see added to the final release include:

  • add LightDM Editor to the MXLinux Tools Panel of tasks; it seems like it ought to be on that menu.
  • add Dropbox to repos; even though it is no big deal installing manually.
  • add tlpui to repos see: https://github.com/d4nj1/TLPUI (I can run it directly using python, but the GUI is handy as an installed app.)

My plans are to move my sister to MXLinux this week, and also move my dad’s laptop as well (I hope all of us are lucky enough to get to 89+ and are are using our tech for entertainment and ‘business’.)

Thanks to everyone on the MX team for their exceptional work.
